The history behind horoscopes:

We all know what signs we are based on our birth months, and what characteristics we have based on the signs we are, but what are horoscopes, and what is the history behind them?

It all goes back to around 330 BC. Each zodiac sign was named after constellations (constellations are the configuration of stars, especially at one’s birth) and were coordinated with their dates based on the relationship between their placement in the sky and the sun.

The zodiac signs are said to have originated in Babylonian astrology during the first half of the 1st millennium BC. The history of the zodiac is based on the Chinese calendar. One of the religions that influenced the zodiac was Taoism ( Taoism is the belief in spiritual immortality when the body meets the universe after death). The Babylonian empire was an empire in Iraq that used horoscopic astrology around 2,400 years ago.

Many people still believe in astrology but it is scientifically proven that it doesn’t exist. Scientific testing hasn’t found evidence to support the logic in astrology, so therefore astrology has been rejected by the scientific community.

Now, what does the horoscope have to do with the zodiac signs? Horoscopes predict a person’s personality using the 12 zodiac signs. They can also predict each day, week, or month you’re going to have based on your sign.

The twelve zodiac signs are:

 Aries

 Taurus

 Gemini

Cancer

Leo

Virgo

 Libra

 Scorpio

 Sagittarius

 Capricorn

 Aquarius

 Pisces

Each sign occupies 30 degrees of celestial longitude (the angular distance of a point east of the vernal equinox, measured along the ecliptic.) and roughly corresponds to the star constellations.
