Glee has recently regained its popularity after its release this year on Netflix, so we decided to make a list of our top ten Glee songs from Season 1. As it was really hard choosing the Top 10, this list will only include the songs before the end of sectionals.
So no more blabbering and here are our Top 10 Glee songs:
- Rehab
Okay we love the New Directions but honestly Carmel Highs Vocal Adrenaline is pretty cool. This is the first glimpse the gang has of their fiercest competition and the looks on their faces really show how amazing Vocal Adrenaline is. What would the show be without these National winning show choir champions?
- Taking Chances
This Celine Dion song is performed by Rachel Berry as her audition for the school musical Cabaret. It does not only display her amazing vocals but it also shows us why she is one of the most talented girls at McKinley.
- Lean On Me
Performed in the tenth episode of the series, the New Directions sing this song to Quinn and Finn. They use these powerful lyrics to tell them they will support both of them during Quinns pregnancy. Yet another example that shows how strong the Glee club family is.
- Keep Holding On
A beautiful performance that showcases what being in the New Directions means. This Avril Lavigne song is dedicated to Quinn to show their support and tell her that no matter what, they will always be there. The lyrics of the song demonstrate these feelings by saying “I’m here for you” and “nothing you could say, nothing you could do” will change my love for you.
- Defying Gravity
Musicals! Who doesn’t love songs from musicals? Glee is no stranger to performing fabulous musical covers and Defying Gravity is one of them. This song is sung by Elphaba in the Broadway Musical Wicked. In the original Broadway Version, Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith play Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. Here in Glee you may know them as Shelby Corcoran and April Rhodes.
- Somebody To Love
This Queen song is performed by the New Directions for their Invitational and must I say they nailed it. Finn and Rachel did a wonderful job with their solos but the praise goes to Mercedes. The note Mercedes hits at the end was simply mind-blowing.
- It’s My life/ Confessions
This is one of the best mashups the New Directions has ever done. The combination of Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life and Usher ́s Confession resulted in an outstanding performance. Plus we got to see Mike Chang’s dance moves.
- Don’t Rain On My Parade
Another song from a musical! This time the musical is Funny Girl performed by Rachel Berry in Sectionals. This song was originally performed by Rachel’s icon Barbara Streisand. (SPOILER ALERT!) This probably was foreshadowing that Rachel would play Fanny Brice on the Broadway revival of Funny Girl.
- I’ll Stand By You
This song by the Pretenders is sung by Finn when he believes that Quinn is pregnant with his child. It is one of the most emotional songs he performs. Kurt helps Finn release his emotions by singing to who he thinks is his unborn daughter and he delivers an emotional and heartbreaking performance.
- Don’t Stop Believing
This Journey song has become practically the anthem of the show being revisited multiple times in the series. Its powerful message of “don’t stop believing” represents what McKinley High Glee Club stands for. It is the perfect ending for the season 1 pilot.
Honorable Mentions:
Papa Don’t Preach
Quinn performing a Madonna song (iconic) and her chemistry with Puck .
Don’t Stand So Close To Me/ Young Girl
Remember when Rachel had a crush on Mr. Schue?
My Life Would Suck Without You
The Glee Club did this special number because Mr Schue couldn’t see them at sectionals. (SPOILER ALERT) Awww! Ps. Also first time he kisses Emma.
